The George Institute for Global Health, China (GIC) aims to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, information and ideas, and skills across all areas of clinical research, training, teaching, clinical practice, and policy development with our partners in China. The ultimate goal is a sustained commitment to the implementation of evidence-based policy and practice that addresses the burden of disease.
The Role
The Statistics team is responsible for the provision of statistical expertise to support the research projects conducted at The George Institute; this includes clinical trials, observational studies, meta-analyses, surveys as well as teaching and the development of new statistical methods.
The Statistical Programmer is responsible for the analyses of medical research projects conducted in The George Institute for Global Health, China or in other offices, and medical study or clinical trials from George affiliated enterprises or external organizations.
Reporting Relationships
The Statistical Programmer will directly report to the Head, Biostatistics and Data Management in Beijing.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
· Prepare derived datasets for the analyses using SAS
· Work in designing and preparing programs to produce tables and listings, and figures for study report and regulatory submissions based on statistical analysis plans
· Program and validate statistical analyses in SAS
· Prepare and deliver reports for interim and final analyses
· Assist with the development of statistical analysis plans
· Work in collaboration with members of statistics, data management, clinical and regulatory teams on preparation of summary documents submitted to study sponsors and regulatory agencies.
· Comply with all institute standards and regulatory requirements for the programming, analysis and reporting of research projects
· Provide statistical expertise to the research staff based in Beijing
· Have a key role in the research development, implementation, and dissemination of relevant current or new studies
· Ability of analyse data and prepare manuscripts that are suitable for publication
· Assist with the preparation of grant applications as required

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
· Graduate qualifications in Statistics or Epidemiology
· Minimum 1-year experience in statistical programming for medical research
· Familiarity with SAS programming with excellent knowledge of SAS 9.2 environment and Windows operating systems
· Proficiency in the use of basic SAS tools and procedures such as SAS BASE, SAS/STAT, SAS/MACRO, PROC REPORT TABULATE, ODS and additional statistical procedures, and functions.
· Understanding of data management principles for clinical trials and medical research
· Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for clinical trials and medical research
· Strong focus on quality and timely delivery of work.
· Well organized with good time management skills
· Strong problem solving and analytical skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of proficiency in English
· Ability to work well and flexibly ie. autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
· Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
· Competence with computer programs (especially MS Office; MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint) and electronic communication (email and internet).
