History

China

The establishment of the China-Australia Partnership for Health in 2004 marked the beginning of The George Institute’s development in China. In 2007, The George Institute, China (GIC) was officially launched as an entity. In 2009, GIC hosted the China International Center for Chronic Disease Prevention with the aim of undertaking more appropriate and effective research to prevent and manage chronic diseases in China.

In 2012 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Peking University Health Science Center (PUHSC) was signed and GIC became an official affiliate of PUHSC. Building and coordinating a broad alliance between governments, universities, hospitals, and other research organizations across China, it has become a leading health organization in China after years of development with over 70 full-time staff. It attracts numerous international and domestic visiting fellows and interns every year to participate in its research projects.
