NIH Fogarty Fellowships – U.S. National Institute of Health Fogarty International Centre
Fogarty International Center is the international component of the NIH, which addresses global health challenges through innovative and collaborative research and training programs. Since its formation 40 years ago, Fogarty has served as a bridge between the NIH and the greater global health community – facilitating exchanges among investigators, providing training opportunities and underwriting promising research initiatives in low-and middle-income countries.
NHMRC Fellowship
The Australia-China Exchange Fellowship is a grants program funded by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). This fellowship supports Australian health researchers to study in China and aims to increase collaboration between Australian and Chinese health and medical researchers by supporting exchange between the two countries.
The Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development – AYAD
The AYAD program aims to strengthen mutual understanding between Australia and the countries of the Asia-Pacific region and make a positive contribution to development. The program achieves these aims by placing skilled young Australian (18-30) on short-term assignments in developing countries in the Asia Pacific region. AYAD volunteers work with local counterparts in host organisations to achieve sustainable development outcomes through capacity building, skills transfer and institutional strengthening.
The University of Sydney
The University of Sydney, founded in 1850, has an international reputation for outstanding teaching and research excellence. Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney is Australia’s oldest and largest medical school undertaking teaching and research in health and medicine of international standing. It is part of the University’s Faculties of Health, the largest and most comprehensive grouping of health and medical education and research in the Asia Pacific region

International visiting fellows and scholars
This document briefly describes the training opportunities open to collaborations for visiting scholars and faculty, post-doctorate fellows, medical students, master and doctoral students with research background and interests.
Proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage but not necessary unless otherwise noted.
Minimal length of stay is 3 months; however we prefer you to stay longer!
Applicants should have certain research experience and content knowledge related to chronic disease, injury prevention, and disability research. In general, they should possess one or more of the following essential skills to work independently or under different levels of mentorship:
- Initiation of research ideas and proposal writing (bring your own ideas or work on the proposals we are working on – not listed here)
- Data management and data analysis (requires training in data analysis, and biostatistics, and at least a basic knowledge of statistical software such as SAS, Stata, or SPSS)
- Research manuscript and study report writing including skills in literature search and review, drafting and critical revisions of research papers or reports in English
- Research project implementation and management (for projects in this stage only; usually requires proficiency in Mandarin)
- Stakeholder engagement, communications, advocacy, translation of research evidence to policy (for projects with such elements only; usually requires proficiency in Mandarin and experience in public relations)
Descriptions of our current projects are available as a separate document and on our website. Please select one or more projects you’d like to work on. Alternatively, it is also possible for us to identify suitable projects for you once you arrive if you meet the above requirements and are committed to coming to China. However, flexibility is required in terms of specific projects you wish to work on within the context of areas of expertise (chronic disease and injury prevention and management).

Internship for students in Beijing
This document briefly describes the training opportunities and internship open to medical students, undergraduates, master, and doctoral students with research background and interests. The internship may be paid or unpaid positions depending on the actual situation and involvement.
Minimal length of internship is 6 months with longer length preferred, ideally at least 8 hours (2 half days or 1 full day) in a week with longer time preferred. In addition, we have short-term paid research assistant vacancies on an irregular basis for specific tasks such as data entry and survey interviews. These short-term positions are not considered internship and this document does not apply to such positions.
The internship applicant should meet the following requirement:
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Passionate about clinical, population, health system, or translational research
- (For master and doctoral students only), receiving support of their advisors to apply for the internship.
