Zhao Yifei: Explore Everything Beautiful

Meet Yifei Zhao, Research Fellow at The George Institute China, who is currently involved in the Clinical Pathway for Acute Coronary Syndromes (CPACS) project and work related to a sub-project of hospital management.

How long have you been working at The George Institute, China?
Nearly one year. I came to the Institute as an intern 6 years ago, but became a regular member in August last year.

What's your professional background?
I majored in preventive medicine during my regular University course, and was absorbed in the cardiovascular epidemiology study in the postgraduate stage. It was instructed by Professor Wu Yangfeng who is the Senior Director and Professorial Fellow at The George Institute, China.

What attracted you to work at The George Institute?
I was attracted by the pure academic atmosphere here when I was an intern. The Institute has a global network of medical and health experts working together to address the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, therefore, we have many opportunities to get in touch with famous scholars in the public health field. Friendly and harmonious relationship between colleagues also promotes the mutual progress in academics.

What does your work focus on?
I am now engaged in the summary and publication of CPACS-3.

What difference will this make to healthcare and why?
Our study aims to take a series of measures to push for the implementation of clinical pathways, to consequently accelerate the progress in quality management of acute coronary syndrome in hospitals. Our focus is not only on the health of the population in big cities, but also on those in economically less-developed areas. We hope that our studies and scientific research can provide references for policy makers to promote improvements in medical quality and medical equality.

How do you explain to others the work you are doing?
We sometimes feel bored and lonely in scientific research work, but we remember it is worth doing when thinking of our aim to develop health knowledge and improve people's health. After all, it's only when health is guaranteed that everyone can enjoy everything brought by social development.

Why do you enjoy working at the George?
The Institute applies human-based management, for example, monthly birthday party gives us a sense of belonging and happiness of sharing. In addition, there are many other things through which we can obtain warmth of being concerned and concerning others, like public umbrellas and social club giving concerns to sick kids.

To unwind at the end of the day you…
I love accompanying my partner to study, exercise, cook, watch movies, travel and explore the unknown beautiful things.
