The Role
The Data Manager & SAS programmer is responsible for assisting in the set-up, programming, monitoring and ongoing maintenance of data management systems to support research projects of George Institute and to ensure the collection of data is complete, accurate and readily transportable for statistical analyses.
Reporting Relationships
The Data Manager & SAS programmer will report to the Head, Statistics & Data Management of The George Institute directly, and indirectly to the Research Services Manager.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
· Ensuring quality and accuracy of research data
· Liaison with project staff (Research Fellows, Division Heads, Project Managers, CRCs, external parties) to determine data collection and reporting requirements
· Designing and testing, or assisting in the design of electronic data collection systems
· Assisting in the design of Case Report Forms or other data collection tools according to study protocol
· Contribute to the set-up and the supporting documentations of medical research databases in set-up phase
· Maintaining systems for data collection
· Generate and manage the data queries (including inconsistent, missing and incorrect data) generated by the electronic data collection systems
· Contribute to the delivery of a clean database and the database lock activity, after communicated with the project teams
· Designing and generating data management plans and reports for projects
· Participate in the development and validation of new data management systems and processes as necessary
· Undertake project planning and planning resources?
· Data cleaning or data listing in SAS where applicable
· Undertake ordinary data analyses where applicable
Compliance and Training
· Complete and document mandatory training for this role within specified timelines
· Attend and document mandatory training workshops required for this role
· Comply with all applicable regulations, guidelines, SOPs and project-specific requirements
· Comply with all designated systems relevant to this role
· Ensure own quality control of all relevant processes and activities performed
Customer Focus and Teamwork
· Attend and actively participate in George Institute meetings and other internal meetings as required
· Provide input to systems, tools and process improvements
As a Team Member:
· Participate in team meetings and activities

· Comply with OH&S legislation and operate in accordance with established OH&S practice and procedures at the George Institute

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
· Bachelor or master degree in science, medicine or related field
· Strong IT skills including reporting software, all MS Office applications, web-based databases and the Internet, and strong conceptual ability to learn new software applications quickly. Experience with academic data management software systems, including RedCAP, and statistical packages such as SAS.
· Proven ability to handle large data sets, including reporting and other evaluation procedures
· A good understanding of relevant Good Clinical Practice and regulatory guidelines, especially those relevant to data quality and accuracy
· Ability to evaluate and recommend changes to existing processes and procedures for greater effectiveness
· Excellent time management skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· High level problem solving, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly, that is autonomously, in small teams, and with a wide range of varying stakeholders, including senior management
